  • “Tate & Tryon is not a stepping stone.  Working at Tate & Tryon is the start of a career as a specialist and not a step toward becoming a specialist.  So many people work to become specialized, but on day one at Tate & Tryon you are a specialist.”

  • “Working at Tate & Tryon has given me the opportunity to develop my abilities as an auditor in addition to providing an ideal work-life balance. Serving a wide variety of clients in the nonprofit industry has exposed me to the unique accounting situations and challenges these organizations face.  Working alongside partners and managers from the client planning stages to the issuance of financial statements provides Audit Seniors and Staff with the necessary skills to experience professional growth and knowledge.”

  • “I first came to work at T&T as an intern after my junior year of college, so I was fortunate enough to have an opportunity to really get to know the Firm and decide that it was the right fit for me.  What made me choose to begin my career here is simple – the people.  You can be an auditor anywhere and what you do will be exactly the same, however, the people you work with won’t.  The staff at T&T genuinely cares about how you develop as a professional, and really fosters an environment of learning that is both open and collaborative.”

Campus Visits

Summer Intern Learning Program

Tate & Tryon’s summer intern learning program assists small charitable organizations. This 8-week program is designed to provide accounting students with hands-on work experience while providing the recipient nonprofit with critical accounting support. The program is provided pro-bono.

Thoughts from our Interns

  • It has been a great learning experience for me and has been a great way to integrate what I learned in the classroom with the professional world. On my first audit, I was immediately assigned cash, fixed assets, and a couple other things. I was a part of the team rather than just an intern. It’s a friendly, positive work environment that is enjoyable to be a part of, and one that I’d like to work in.

    Nick Daly, Audit Intern

James Madison University College of Business

  • I cannot imagine having a better experience this Summer than the one I have had here at Tate & Tryon. They provided with me with everything I could’ve asked for in an internship and more! They have created a fantastic learning environment while making the internship fun at the same time. This Summer gave me the chance to experience what being an auditor really entails and has encouraged me to head in this career path once I graduate.

    Alexa Weisman, Audit Intern

    Virginia Tech

  • From this internship, I am coming away with knowledge of various accounting and CRM softwares, strengthened Microsoft Excel skills, and valuable time working in a professional environment learning how to communicate with both clients and co-workers efficiently and effectively. This is something that you should expect out of a good internship position.

    Jordan Kupferberg, Accounting Intern

University of Maryland – Robert H. Smith School of Business

  • Another great aspect about the internship was the Mentor Program. On the first day I was assigned a “buddy.” A buddy is someone in your department who serves as your go-to person to ask questions about audits, CPA exam, dress code, submitting your timesheet, and even restaurants and activities in DC. My buddy was great and extremely helpful! I was able to learn about her path to becoming a CPA, transitioning from college to a full-time job, and even her internship experience!

    Aquarius Ross, Audit Intern

Christopher Newport University – Joseph W. Luter, III School of Business

  • The work given to us is both interesting and challenging. I really appreciated how T&T put so much confidence in their interns. They allowed us to perform the responsibilities of a Staff Auditor. I felt that this was extremely beneficial to us because we were given the opportunity to engage in hands-on assignments that allowed us to truly see how auditing works.

    Connie Phung, Audit Intern,

    Virginia Tech

  • The employees want to teach you how to do specific parts of an audit, instead of just showing you how to do it, making it very hands-on. As an intern, you are helping Tate & Tryon actually complete an audit, not just going on coffee runs. I never thought I would have learned so much from them in just four weeks.

    Alex Daly, Audit Intern

    Virginia Tech

  • As my internship here at Tate & Tryon is coming to an end in a few weeks, I can honestly say I do not want it to be over. The people you meet at T&T are not only welcoming but they are kind, fun, understanding, and willing to teach you and answer any questions you may have. During the first week, the interns were trained on accounting software systems which made it a very easy transition from topics we learned in class to using them in the software! T&T laid the foundation and prepared us for the work that we would be doing right from the beginning.

    Kaitlyn Higgins, Accounting Intern
    University of Mary Washington

  • T&T understands that an internship can be an overwhelming experience and has done a wonderful job at making us feel as comfortable as possible. They give you the opportunity to work in-depth on different assignments that most full-time staff work on. While this may seem intimidating at first, everyone here fully understands the learning curve that comes with an internship as they never hesitated to assist me whenever I had questions. All in all, this internship 100% succeeds at providing you the best overall experience, no matter what your expectations are.
